Our energetic and caring staff and crew members are providing Hawaii’s visitors one of the world’s most unique cruise and underwater viewing experiences. SEMISUB ONE is Oahu’s first jet-powered semi-submersible catamaran.
SUMMARY
Captain (USCG licensed Captain 100 or 500-ton see specific qual requirements below): The Captain is in command aboard the vessel. The Captain is responsible for directing the First Mate who supervises and coordinates the day-to-day activities of all crew members.
Qualifications:
Either a 100 GT Masters MMC with an endorsement as ballast control operator (BCO) or a 500 GT Masters MMC with STCW endorsements due to the vessel’s active ballast system.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Become familiar with the handling characteristics of the vessel (maneuvering, docking, anchoring, semi-submersion operations, etc.) as well as the operation of critical systems (electronic navigation aids, steering, de-watering, safety apparatus, etc.)
- Perform navigational watches while underway and safety/anchor/dock watches at other times.
- Maintenance of required logbooks according to established practice and in established formats.
- Oversee the First Mate’s supervision of the crew members and ensure that each performs his/her assigned duties adequately.
- Training, interviews and orientation of new crew members.
- Oversee line-handling when coming to port, anchoring, deck maintenance and safety.
- Manage the design and execution of emergency drills, generally taking charge of on-scene response actions.
- Ensure written drill reports are properly logged.
- Ensure all members of the crew contribute to the maintenance of the vessel and that the First Mate supervises this work and maintains SEMISUB related work records.
- Direct the First Mate and Crew to develop daily guest activity objectives and weekly itineraries.
- Routinely update scheduling and tasking information on the crew whiteboard, and pass-the-word when sudden changes need to be made.
- Oversee assigning crew to guest activities and issue equipment such as hand-held radios, tablets, etc.
- Ensure all shipboard equipment is accounted for and maintained in good order.
Minimum requirements:
- US Citizen, US National or Green Card holder. Education or technical training of a specialized nature beyond high school. Minimum 3-5 years in the maritime industry with progressively responsible experience. STCW-95 basic safety training. TWIC card. USCG license with a minimum rating of Captain 500-ton.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen, reference checks and background check.
- Must have sufficiently acute hearing, eyesight and depth perception to meet the demands of at-sea service.
- Must be capable of using escape hatches and boarding /disembarking survival craft unassisted.
Desired Skills/Abilities:
- Outgoing and friendly demeanor, able to engage and communicate easily with passengers and crew. Familiarity with Honolulu waters, weather conditions, history and current events. Computer skills in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word, plus general writing abilities. SEMISUB is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
SEMISUB will be touring multiple times daily. We will have up to 149 guests on each cruise leaving from Kewalo Harbor. This adventure will be starting soon. We will be training our candidates in CPR and First aid along with coastguard regulations and procedures.
