Position: Staff Accountant

Job Purpose: Responsible for the working with the controller on accounting maintenance and controls of the company’s accounting system, to include reporting, preparations, and reviews of the monthly internal financial statements.  Maintain financial reports, records and general ledgers, prepare and analyze budgets and perform general bookkeeping. Assists in implementing and ensuring proper accounting treatment and maintain financial records in accordance with appropriate accounting guidelines.    

Job Duties Include:

  • Assist with evaluating and identifying internal control weaknesses, and establish and implement internal controls, policies and procedures.
  • Perform administrative duties, such as maintaining schedules, providing telephone support, filing, transcription and the production of forms.
  • Compliance with external auditors for audited financial statements and income tax returns.
  • Maintain financial records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Work with the Contracts division to ensure accurate invoices are submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure timely disbursements of Account Payable as prescribed by the terms and conditions of each agreement.  
  • Maintains user confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Skills/Qualifications: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications with emphasis in Word, Excel, Outlook, and on-line search engines required.   Previous experience with payroll systems and a financial background. Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable preferred.

Education and Experience: This position prefers a bachelor’s or associates degree in Accounting, Finance or similar discipline from an accredited institution or professional experience of more than two years is acceptable.  Experience in or work for the U.S. military is also highly desirable.
